Cedarville Dean reflects on Shane Claiborne…

I have been following the conversations surrounding the cancellation of an invitation for Shane Claiborne to speak at Cedarville University with keen interest.  Jeremy Bouma posted a letter from Dr. Ruby at his blog.  Jeremy is a Cedarville alum and offers a unique perspective on the events of the last week.
Dawn also offers some poignant [...]

Gospel word pictures…

Kingdom Grace posted a number of wonderful pictures which are representative of key words in the emergent church conversation as well as many other parts of the Church.  They are words inherent to Gospel living.
I re-post them here with a HT to Kingdom Grace.  I also found the comments exchanged in response to her pictures [...]

Called by name…

Listen to me, all of you in far-off lands!  The LORD called me before my birth; from within the womb he called me by name.  Isaiah 49:1
I have been meditating on this verse as I prepare to preach Sunday.  A recurring theme in the lectionary texts for Sunday is that of being named by God.  [...]

The Daily Scribe…

I have been caught up by a wave of technologically mediated community.  Not community in the 3-dimensional social matrix sense, but community nevertheless.  Several weeks ago Shawn Anthony invited me to be a part of an emerging guild of writers whose blog content would be aggregated at The Daily Scribe.  I casually said yes, not really thinking about the way I [...]

Sweet mother of pearl…

It’s Friday. Time for some lighter fare. I found an interesting post by Bradley Wright on slang expressions people use.
“Sweet mother of pearl”
This one is used as some would use “holy cow” or “oh my gosh”.
“When I saw all the Christmas shopping traffic downtown today, I loudly exclaimed “sweet mother of pearl, that’s a [...]

Blogging…

I’ve added Bradley Wright to my links to blogs that I visit regularly. He has a good post on November 26 in which he writes about the characteristics of good blogging. How often should one blog. Quality over quantity and questions like that.

Hiatus…

Haven’t had much time to blog lately. Ira is on sabbatical so I’m picking up with a few more things at SMC. Extra time given to refugee support as well.
Just haven’t had any energy left for the blogging discipline. Blogging as a spiritual discipline for the Christian contemplative.
I have been thinking for some time that [...]
