Let nothing perturb you…
Let nothing perturb you, nothing frighten you. All things pass. God does not change. Patience achieves everything.

I ran the Broad Street Run (10 miles) yesterday. The weather was perfect. I only run two or three races a year. It is quite a rush to gather with a group of runners (22,000) and spectators. Here are some random thoughts and oberservations about the race and running in general:
1. There are internal and external dimensions of running. [...]
The brown patches in my greening lawn are the work of grubs my neighbor tells me. Apparently my tardy application of Scotts Step 3 last year was not good enough. “They eat the roots of your grass,” my neighbor says. “That’s why those patches are coming in brown.” Yet, green blades of new grass buoy [...]
Martin Luther King, Jr. on War
Today is the 40th anniversary of the assassination of Martin Luther King Jr. I am amazed at how much he accomplished in his short life. He was the leader of a movement. A prophetic voice for civil rights…against the wars of empire. He was a courageous voice speaking out of the [...]

There is something comforting about this ritual. We know the narrative, but we are drawn into the familiar rhythm of the words…pictures. [...]
But Jesus on his part would not entrust himself to them, because he knew all people….for he himself knew what was in everyone.
John 2:24-25
Emergents find the biblical call to community more compelling than the democratic call to individual rights. The challenge lies in being faithful to both ideals. -Tony Jones, The New Christians
A first person confessional story [...]
…from everlasting to everlasting you are God. You turn us back to dust, and say, “Turn back, you mortals.” For a thousand years in your sight are like yesterday when it is past, or like a watch in the night. You sweep them away; they are like a dream, like grass that is renewed in [...]
