Tom Fox

March 11, 2006

Just saw the wire that confirms the killing of CPTer Tom Fox. I was caught aback by the news. May his life, witness and martyrdom bring about a more peaceful and just reality in the Middle East.

How long will the violence go on? How long must there be wailing in the streets stained with blood? When will the lion lay down with the lamb, neighbor embrace neighbor, and the nations study war no more? When will hope overtake fear, when will life overtake death? When will the hatred that leads to suicidal missions of terror be replaced with dreams of a life worth living?

Jesus, Lord have mercy.

God blesses those who work for peace,
for they will be called the children of God.

God blesses those who are persecuted because they live for God,
for the Kingdom of Heaven is theirs.

Matthew 5:9-10

Here’s one way to honor Tom’s faithful witness. I’ll be there. -Chris

    Peace Procession (March 18):
On the third anniversary of the war in Iraq, there will be several opportunities for motivated individuals to act on their peacemaking convictions. At 1pm a silent procession will begin at Binn’s Park in Downtown Lancaster (Lancaster Square on N Queen St. between Orange and Chestnut). People of all faiths are invited to meet-up beforehand at 12:15PM at Community Mennonite Church, 328 W Chestnut St., to walk to Binn’s Park together. The procession will end at Southern Market Center, 100 S Queen St., where a town meeting will begin at 2:15pm. Later that night, at 7pm, a silent candlelight vigil will be held in Penn Square in Downtown Lancaster.
