Be who you are…

September 3, 2009

As you go off to school this morning
I see your middle-school wings spreading
and I want to tell you
be who you are
as you are becoming

As the sun rises on another day
of books, lockers, lessons
and teachers who will see
your potential and mold it
be who you are
as you are becoming

As you laugh with friends at table
and take the home-made sandwich
and sliced fresh peach from
your technicolor lunch sack
be who you are
as you are becoming

As you step off the yellow bus
and return home to rice pudding snack
couch vegetation, chores
homework and flute
be who you are
as you are becoming

And as you are becoming
know that I marvel
at the beautiful
mystery
of you

What wonderful thoughts from a dad…I hope you are saving these for your children to treasure!

What powerful words from a father to his daughter!
A wonderful way for Mackenzie to know she is loved and accepted by her father, even though she may at times feel confused and uncertain about who she is in her world of relationships.
